Homework is an integral part of any curriculum at any grade level. It provides an opportunity for your child to practice a concept/concepts that have been learned in the classroom. Also, homework provides the opportunity for a home/school connection so that we can work together to make school and learning important and fun for every child. A homework packet will be sent home weekly ,that consists of skills practice and "hands on " activities to do with your child.The homework packet will be sent home on Mondays and should be completed throughout the week  and returned the following Monday.

 

Also, over the weekend, your child will be asked to find a magazine picture or clip art that begins with the letter of the week (for the following week) . They should cut the picture out and glue it on an index card (from the pack you bought on the supply list). If your child is ready to sound out words for themselves, then please allow them to use "inventive" spelling to write the word under the picture. If your child is not ready, then ,model the word for your child and have them copy it under the picture. The index card should be put in their homework folder and sent in on Mondays. If your child would like to make more than one card, they are more than welcome to do so. These index cards will be used in 2 different class activities. Lastly, several times throughout the year , the children will be asked to do a project with you at home that is directly connected to our curriculum . I will give the projects in advance so that all families will have plenty of time to complete them with their child and send it in on the due date.
